How can hybrid learning prepare apprentices for the future, Sven Barufe?
In this episode of the AMTLICH VORAN podcast, I speak with Sven Barufe, Head of Vocational Training at Mainova AG. Sven has been involved in vocational training for more than 20 years and is currently responsible for around 140 apprentices and six training supervisors at Mainova. And Mainova has big plans: The training center is being expanded to three times its current size, and starting in 2028, around 70 new apprentices are expected to begin each year.
One thing Sven said really stuck with me:
“Digitalization doesn’t replace—digitalization gives us the time and space to allow the trainer to do what they’re actually there to do.”
Among other things, we discussed these topics:
🥽 When VR Meets the Workbench
From virtual welding to safety drills in virtual worlds: Mainova combines proven hands-on learning with digital possibilities—without replacing what has always worked well in training.
🎯 Personalized Learning Instead of One-Size-Fits-All
Digital learning platforms enable apprentices to learn more flexibly and at their own pace—while also giving trainers the freedom to focus more specifically on each individual.
🚁 From drones to AI: Training as an innovation lab
At Mainova, trainees are already using drones for inspection flights and thermal imaging. This is an exciting example of how training can introduce new technologies into the company and thus have an impact far beyond the training center.
