What will work look like in 2035, SVEN GABOR JANSZKY?

In this episode of the SAATKORN podcast, I speak to Sven Gabor Janszky, Chairman of the To Be Ahead Group, futurologist and author of the new book ‘2035 – The Future Begins Today’. For the past 25 years, Sven and his team have been conducting scientific research into how technology, demographics, the economy and society will shape our future.

This time, we’re focusing on a question that’s particularly fascinating for HR and the wider world of work: what happens if AI doesn’t just make us more productive, but actually means that we humans have to do less paid work overall?

One sentence in particular has stuck with me:

“AI doesn’t replace jobs at first – it replaces working hours.”

Among other things, we discussed the following topics:

🤖 A working day in 2035

As with the previous books in this series, life in 2035 is depicted through the fictional example of a family. In this podcast episode, we focus (naturally) on the topic of work.

⏰ Is the end of the eight-hour day approaching?

Sven sees a possible tipping point around 2035: if AI can also take on quality control and more complex tasks more effectively, the available volume of paid work could fall rapidly – and with it, our familiar model of the eight-hour working day could be called into question.

❤️ Why empathy is becoming a skill of the future

The more machines take over routine and knowledge-based work, the more important roles will become in which people support, develop and inspire others – Sven refers to these as ‘empathy-based professions’, such as mentoring or coaching.
