In this episode of the SAATKORN podcast, I speak to Christina Langer, Senior Economist at StepStone and research fellow at the ifo Institute. Following her research work at the Stanford Digital Economy Lab, Christina now combines academic labour market research with StepStone’s real-time labour market data.
One sentence in particular has stuck in my mind:
“AI is likely to become a basic skill – just like using a computer or writing emails.”
Among other things, we discussed the following topics:
🤖 AI expands tasks rather than simply replacing them
Christina reports on research findings that show generative AI can help medium-skilled workers take on more challenging tasks – without compromising their understanding.
📉 Starting a career is becoming more difficult
The number of entry-level roles is well below the long-term average. At the same time, Christina explains why companies could face problems in the long term if they fail to recruit young talent today.
😨 FOBO: The fear of becoming redundant
Why the worry of being replaced by AI is now a concern for recruiters, employees and jobseekers alike – and how you can tackle this uncertainty through learning, data literacy and curiosity.
